You can take out a DB Spar- und Spezialpreis insurance for as little as EUR 6 to cover the return fee and/or reimbursement of the ticket price in the event of rescission for an insured reason. You can also transfer the "Sparpreis Europa" ticket to a different train along the entire route on the first day of validity of the outward or return journey - on payment of the difference to the normal price - for the section of the regulating carrier (for the on-board price in the train) and an additional service charge of EUR 15 per ticket and direction.

- via Austria: in transit via Kufstein–Brennero/Brenner to all stops for international, cross-border trains from/to Germany and Merano
- via Switzerland: in transit via Basel Bad-Chiasso/Iselle or Schaffhausen–Chiasso/Iselle to all stops for international trains from/to Milan.
