3-D Secure and PSD2
3-D Secure is a security standard which protects customers from credit card fraud on the Internet. The various credit card companies have different names for this standard, including Verified by Visa, Mastercard Identity Check and American Express SafeKey.
What are the 3-D Secure system and PSD2?
European banking regulators have introduced new technical regulatory standards (Payment Service Directive 2 (PSD 2)) which aim in part to make online payments more secure. Deutsche Bahn has met the stipulated security requirements by implementing the required strong customer authentication (SCA) in the form of two-factor authentication.
At least two of the following three factors are now required when making a payment:
- Possession (e.g. smartphone)
- Knowledge (e.g. PIN or password)
- Inherence/biometrics (e.g. fingerprint or facial recognition)
