German and Polish cultural memories have occasionally been shaped by emotions and prejudices. However, on both sides of the Oder, there is consensus that a new process of fostering mutual understanding began 20 years ago and that this will be the basis for an enduring friendship. Poland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union provides an exceptional opportunity to strengthen this important dialogue for Europe with an exhibition. For the first time, there will be an extensive display of the 1000-year history of mutual relations between Poland and Germany.
