Seamless Travel: The smooth link from train to plane

AIRail is the optimal link between rail and air transport on routes between Frankfurt and Stuttgart, Cologne and Siegburg/Bonn. The journey time between Cologne and Frankfurt is only 56 minutes. The train times have been coordinated with the Lufthansa timetable in Frankfurt, enabling passengers to enjoy short transfer times and even arrive comfortably in time for early intercontinental flights.

When it comes to checking in, travellers can also save valuable time by checking in at the station for both the AIRail journey and the connecting flight, up to 15 minutes prior to departure of the train. Moreover, since November 2008 it is possible to use the convenient online check-in facility, including choosing your seat and printing out your online boarding pass, for the AIRail section of your trip as well. It goes without saying that Miles & More members will be able to earn valuable miles on all AIRail journeys.

Passengers will be able to drop off their luggage for their connecting flight at the AIRail Terminal of the mainline Frankfurt station, which is right next door to the interchange to the airport building. On the return journey, their bags will be available for collection from this point. Any customs formalities will be handled here as well.

Exclusive service between Cologne, Siegburg/Bonn and Frankfurt

Since October 2008 Lufthansa passengers can enjoy a great start to their journey between Cologne, Siegburg/Bonn and Frankfurt airport: a new, exclusive Lufthansa area located in coach 21 is to be introduced on Inter City Express trains serving these routes as an enhancement to the existing AIRail Service.

Business class passengers will enjoy a pleasant journey in the panorama lounge with cockpit view. The separate compartment will have ten seats and, thanks to improved seat pitch, will offer the optimal conditions for working and relaxing. The Business class onboard service will match the customary Lufthansa standard, with Lufthansa train attendants on hand to assist travellers in the cloakroom and serve drinks and refreshments during the journey. A full range of newspapers and magazines will also be available, while at the stations Business Class passengers will have access to the Deutsche Bahn lounges.

Thanks to extra shelving for luggage, there will be a lot more space available for baggage, both in Business and Economy class. Moreover, passengers will enjoy an even more attentive and personal service from the Lufthansa train attendants. Passengers with luggage will be helped on and off their train at Frankfurt and Cologne stations by the AIRail porter service, smoothing the way from check-in to train.

AIRail route Stuttgart-Frankfurt

On the Stuttgart-Frankfurt route you can choose from a special Lufthansa Business and Economy class seat quota in both first and second class of Deutsche Bahn.

Your boarding pass for the ICE shows the coach and seat number of your reservation. As a First or Business class passenger, you have a seat in a first class carriage. There you are served a snack and a beverage at your seat. As an Economy class passenger, we reserve a seat for you in second class.

After you have received your boarding pass you take your baggage to the train yourself. When you arrive in Frankfurt you can hand it in at the Lufthansa Quick Check-in baggage drop-off counter in the AIRail Terminal at the long-distance railway station at Frankfurt Airport.
